The birds are continuing to grow and now make a lot of noise at feeding time (which is most of the day). If Mama or Daddy bird notices us watching the nest while the babies are up and chirping, they’ll make two very quick chirps in a different voice than they usually use and the babies will immediately hide under the edge of the nest, perfectly quiet.
I suspect they’ll be grown and ready to fly while we’re on vacation. Hopefully an empty nest won’t be too hard to explain to Justin when we get back!
We snuck a few pics at the baby birds today. They’re very cute – teeny tiny fuzzy balls with beaks as big as their heads. Also whenever we peak into the nest, the babies sense our shadows and start begging for food – they’re growing and hungry little fuzzy balls!
Justin is very careful to be quiet when we pass near them, since he’s decided they need to nap a lot (being babies). And he’s likes to watch to make sure Mama bird comes back when she flies away for a bit.
(And sorry for the weird photo quality – it was taken through both a screen and old glass!)
One bird has hatched. One egg was discarded. Two eggs still to go.
Having a nest in your flower basket makes it hard to water the flowers…
