RIP Spirit; or, why I should stop following sports teams.
The North Shore Spirit is was our local independent baseball team. We’ve followed them since Chad first moved here and had season tickets a few years back. Even without season tickets, we made it to 29 games this season, including several on the road and three playoff games. And now they’re gone.
Of all the teams I’ve rooted for, only the Habs, Alouettes and Concordia Stingers haven’t moved or folded. I’m starting to take it personally.
Montreal Expos (baseball): Became a fan in the early 80s. Team moved to Washington D.C. in 2004.
Carleton Ravens (football): Became a fan in 1996. Team folded (or cut, I suppose) in 1998.
Ottawa Lynx (baseball): Started going to games in 1997. Although less of a fan when they were no longer the Expos’ AAA, I still went to a few games each summer. Team moving to Allentown, PA for next season.
Montreal Rocket (hockey): Became a fan in 2000. Team moved to P.E.I. in 2003.
Montreal Express (lacrosse): Attended every home game from the very first in December 2001 to the one two days before I left for Salt Lake City. Team suspended operations after the season. Became the Minnesota Swarm in 2005.
Montreal Eperviers (lacrosse): Attended all but one game of their first season in 2002. Team folded in 2003.
North Shore Spirit (baseball): Became a fan in 2004. Team folded in 2007.
Watch out Boston Still-to-be-named-but-probably-the-Blazers-again - I’m rooting for you this year!

In the Mood…
My newest favouritest application is Crayon Room’s Moody. It’s a tagging app that works with iTunes and it’s actually easy to use (and fun! but then, I’m easy to amuse…). Instead of trying to describe songs using words, you tag songs using colours that represent moods, then you can play songs from one or multiple moods. I don’t think this description is living up to the coolness of the app, but trust me, it’s awesome. Really.
Oh, and Moody is also free! Yay free!
